Redeemer Book Club

At Redeemer Community Church, we believe in the importance of reading good books, particularly books that develop and deepen our spiritual lives. Therefore, we established the Redeemer Book Club. Each month, the books chosen will be available for purchase at the Redeemer Bookstore at a reduced price.

In 2019 two reading paths were available: the Church History Track (we used an adapted version of Mark Dever’s Christian Classics Reading List) and the Theology Track (books in the order of Systematic Theology).

For 2020, the Book Club will feature favorite books of the Redeemer Staff. Every two months, we will release a new book with the staff member explaining how it impacted their life.

Desiring God, John Piper

selected by Pastor Matt Scott:

Desiring God was the first book, that was not a text book, that I read in seminary. It almost made me quit seminary and even the ministry! Coming from a legalistic background, the idea of enjoying God and finding delight in following Him was a foreign concept to me. As I continued to read the book, it began to create in me to truly desire delighting in God. It was a pivotal moment in my spiritual journey. I cannot recommend this book enough. It is a must-read for all followers of Christ. The foundational truth of the book still rings deep in my heart: ‘God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him.’

March/April

The Hole in Our Holiness, Kevin DeYoung

selected by Chase Higginbotham, Director of Students and Discipleship:

“A few summers ago I had the privilege of taking a journey through this book with 3 Student Ministry interns. I thought I understood what holiness was and I certainly wanted to grow in it, but this book helped clarify not only what holiness is and what it isn’t, but also the power God has given us to actually grow in holiness. Ultimately, holiness and the pursuit of it is not so much the pursuit of a “thing” but it is a pursuit of a Person: Jesus Christ. This book challenged us, encouraged us and pushed us to a deeper and more passionate pursuit of holiness in our own lives. I pray it does the same for you!”
