THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE
The gospel according to John is unique amongst the 4 gospel accounts. Matthew, Mark, and Luke are referred to as the Synoptic Gospels because they are “similar” in their depiction of the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. John’s gospel account, however, is different. John focuses primarily on the redemptive work of Jesus Christ and he has an evangelistic plea throughout his book: believe in the Person and work of Jesus Christ. We know this to be true because in John 20:31 he said he wrote the book, “so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name” (John 20:31 ESV).
That’s our prayer for you. First, if you have never believed in Jesus Christ for salvation, then we pray that you will believe on the name of God’s only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, and that you may have eternal life in Him alone. After all, He is the way, the truth, and the life and no one comes to the Father but through Christ (John 14:6)! Secondly, we pray that you will come to a richer and fuller understanding of the God-man Jesus Christ and His redemptive work on your behalf as we journey our way through John’s gospel account. And to that end, we pray that all of you will grow in your knowledge and love for the one true Redeemer, Jesus Christ.
